Meet Laila
Laila is one of my former students. I am currently mentoring her. When I wrote my first book I knew I wanted Laila to illustrate it. It is a version of the story I used to tell to my incoming art students to encourage them to create. She works hard to develop her artistic skills and it shows! Working with Laila on this project inspired me to continue to write and illustrate. It was the beginning of this journey.

No Monsters Allowed
No Monsters Allowed is a story of a girl who thinks she is an artist until she sees Laila’s work. It is clearly better. It tackles the ongoing struggle with two monsters called ‘I Can’t’ and ‘Compare’. It is about learning to persevere and continue to give your best effort.
